Well, I am back in South Africa (once again) but unfortuantley I have been really sick this week. We returned from Swaziland on Monday (for some reason it took us 12 hours...which is about 8 hours too many) but we got some crazy weather the last few days in Swaziland.
Example: Saturday night, it was thunderstorming like crazy and everyone was in awe and what not then the guys who got to sleep out in tents, had our tent basically blown apart. Not quite but pretty darn close, the rain poured in on all sides, and then the wind snapped the tent pegs, so it collapsed on us. It was pretty neat, so Sunday we slept inside in the kitchen. I got some Mish. pts. for that.
Mish. Pts. <-- Short for Missionary Points, something to keep us entertained while we are here in Africa, and our wardrobes become depleted and are reworn 3 or 4 times, mixmatched outfits, holding african babies, not showering for more than 5 days, etc. basically anything that would be considered lame or not normal.
Friday night we had a talent show (or rather un-talent show) for everyone on our porch. I'm bringing my computer next week so I'll upload some Pictures for you guys to show you what we live in. The guys all banded together to dance to Bye Bye Bye, by Nsync, unfortunately we didnt win but we did get the consolation prize of rice.
Our food has consisted of Peanut butter and Jelly and carrots, for almost every lunch. <--30 Mish. Pts. Then dinner was rice and spice and maybe meat/vegitables. Which is always delicious.
Sorry everything is spread out, but I'm still not feeling to well and just writing whatever comes to mind.
Prayer Request. I am Sick, nothing serious, just a head cold and sore throat and its frustrating, I didnt go on our ministry outreach tuesday or wed, but did go out on thursday to Atteradgeville and was at a cresh (a daycare center basically) for about an hour, then went with a few other of my team members to a man's house who they had a bible study with the other day and wanted us to come back, he asked us a bunch of questions concering what is true, they are very confused here with all kinds of beliefs being thrown at them, mormanism is a huge one, the JW's, this thing called the ZCC zion christian church, which combines traditional african beliefs, legalism, and christian theology that just screws up everyone. So it was good talking tho this guy who wants to know what is true, and everything we said was backed up by scripture which he was very pleased about, that we came out of God's word and not just our mouths.
So thats about that, our JBay team which has been with us all this time is going to take off tomorrow, which is going to bum me out because I've gotten to become really close to the2 guys on that team, Matt and Ty, but hopefully, and you guys can pray about this, they will come up and visit us for Thanksgiving.
Saturday in Swaziland we got to go to a wildlife refugee minus all the big animals, so we got to see a bunch of "deer creature" as my good friend Chelsea put it, a crocidle, a family of hippo, wildabeast, and probably a few more but thats all i can remember, it was pretty neat.
Weather Update: Whoever had the misconception that Africa is hot, should be flogged. It's been really really cold. Like one guy pulled out his carhart jacket and girls are always in layers. Yeah. Africa is not hot...yet.
A few more prayer requests: Where I am supposed to go 2nd semester, they are going to split up our teams in about 3 weeks, that I will be effective in all the ministry opportunities, that I will continue to connect with my team members.
Once again, I love you all, God bless, thank you for your prayers, Give me updates, you can email me jonathan.a.barnett@gmail.com and tell me whats up or if you want me to include something in the next update.
